- Waveform analysis and search functions can help verify the characteristics and performance of complex equipment
Pico Technology, the market leader in PC oscilloscopes and data loggers, today introduced the DeepMeasure analysis tool. As a standard configuration for the PicoScope 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 series oscilloscopes, DeepMeasure provides automatic measurement of waveform parameters up to tens of millions of continuous waveform cycles. The results can be sorted easily, analyzed and associated with the waveform display.
With the increasing complexity of electronic devices, design engineering teams need better tools to record, analyze and visualize waveform data and measure statistics. Most digital oscilloscopes provide automatic measurement of frequency, time, rise and fall times, duty cycle and conventional parameters such as maximum and minimum voltages, but this measurement function is usually limited to a single complete waveform cycle captured in the oscilloscope memory. Subsequent waveform cycles in the same acquisition will be displayed on the screen, but discarded by the measurement results. The measurement statistics (maximum / minimum / average / sum) must be compiled by multiple acquisitions, and the irregular bit pattern can be easily missing or ignored.
An oscilloscope with deep capture memory for the PicoScope 3000 series (512 M memory, 1GS / s sample) and 6000 series (2 G memory, 5GS / s sample) can capture waveforms with thousands of waveform cycles, The acquisition can be done at the maximum sampling rate. DeepMeasure returns a result table that contains each waveform cycle captured in memory. The first edition of the tool contains ten waveform parameters and collects millions of results for each parameter.
The tables that capture the results can be sorted in ascending or descending order so that the engineering team can detect anomalies and quickly find the cause of the complex problem. For example, by clicking the Rise Time column heading, you can quickly find the fastest (or slowest) rise time from as many as one million waveform cycles. Double-click a specific measurement to highlight the corresponding period in the oscilloscope view.
For more complex analysis of histograms and advanced data visualization, you can export measurement tables to work with tools such as Excel and MATLAB.
"Visualization of real test data is key to addressing many of today's engineering challenges," explains Trevor Smith, Business Development Manager, Pico Technology Testing and Measurement Division, UK. "DeepMeasure is a powerful tool that allows you to take advantage of PicoScope deep memory oscilloscopes for rapid analysis and debugging of complex waveforms ranging from serial data streams to laser pulses and particle physics experiments." You can easily discover anomalies and capture with oscilloscopes Other events are associated. "
