Silicon Labs (also known as "Core Technology") has introduced a new multi-band SoC that supports full Bluetooth 5 connectivity and more storage capacity options to further expand its Wireless Gecko system single-chip (SoC) product line. Silicon Labs' new EFR32xG13 SoC provides developers with a high degree of design flexibility and functionality that is ideal for multi-protocol solutions that use a single wireless protocol or require more storage capacity, as well as larger customer applications or for storage lines (OTA) to update the application of the image. The EFR32xG13 component also integrates advanced internal oscillators that reduce bill of materials (BOM) costs, as well as safety accelerators, capacitive sensing, low power sensing, and enhanced RF performance.
The new EFR32xG13 series supports all Bluetooth 5 features and features, enabling 4 times faster transmission distance, 2x speed and 8x broadcast performance than Bluetooth 4, and enhances coexistence with other wireless IoT agreements. The EFR32xG13 SoC has a 2Mbps PHY that supports higher throughput and lower power consumption due to shorter transmit (TX) and receive (RX) times. SoC and incorporates new 125kbps and 500kbps encoded PHYs to achieve farther communication distances that are four times the Bluetooth connection distance of existing devices running Bluetooth 4 today.
The EFR32xG13 SoC provides enough flash memory (512kB) and RAM (64kB) to support zigbee, Thread and Bluetooth 5 applications in a single protocol mode, as well as Bluetooth and zigbee, Thread or private protocol stacks (running on sub -GHz or 2.4 GHz network). The EFR32BG13 family is ideal for Bluetooth mesh applications because the SoC is designed to run both the Bluetooth mesh network and the Bluetooth 5 protocol stack, as well as support for smartphones and Bluetooth mesh connections.
The new SoC includes an internal oscillator that eliminates the need for an external 32 kHz quartz oscillator typically required for Bluetooth low energy devices. The built-in high-precision low-frequency resistive (RC) oscillator (PLFRCO) enables developers to save about $ 0.15 BOM cost in a large number of product designs that require a 32KHz quartz oscillator to meet the Bluetooth low-power sleep clock accuracy specification The PLFRCO Unlike other integrated oscillators provided by other Bluetooth devices, it ensures a robust and reliable Bluetooth low-power connection over the entire operating temperature range.
EFR32xG13 SoC Exceptional energy efficiency can achieve longer battery life and lower current for devices compatible with Energy Star. The sleep current is 6% lower than the EFR32xG12 SoC, 44% lower than the first generation Wireless Gecko device.
The EFR32xG13 family is pin-compatible with all QFN48-packaged Wireless Gecko SoCs to help existing customers further expand their flexible memory, peripheral and functional options. Silicon Labs' full-featured Simplicity Studio development tool supports all Wireless Gecko products and is available free of charge from developers.
