Driving energy-efficient innovative ON Semiconductor to improve imaging performance for industrial applications that require high-resolution image capture and maximum image uniformity.
The new 29-megapixel KAI-29052 image sensor provides imaging sensitivity up to twice the current KAI-29050 in the wavelength range of 500 nm (nm) to 1050 nm. This improved performance is particularly beneficial for applications in near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths such as 850 nm. This enhanced pixel design preserves the charge isolation between the photodiodes, increasing the sensitivity without degrading the image clarity (modulation transfer function or MTF). In addition, the improved amplifier design reduces the readout noise by 15%, increasing the linear dynamic range that the component can provide to 66 dB (dB). These improvements make KAI-29052 a new performance benchmark for high-resolution image capture.
"Industrial imaging applications such as high-end security, machine vision and aerial reconnaissance and cartography require increasing demand for image sensors for the market," said Herb Erhardt, vice president and general manager, Industrial Solutions Division, ON Semiconductor Imaging Sensors Division. The KAI-29052 enhanced performance further confirms ON Semiconductor's continued commitment to providing state-of-the-art CCD and CMOS image sensors for these demanding markets. "
ON Semiconductor's KAI-29052 is available in a CPGA-72 package that conforms to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), with black and white, Bayer and Sparse Color configurations, and with the existing KAI-29050 image sensor and a full range of 5.5 Micron and 7.4 micron CCD image sensor are fully pin compatible, enabling camera manufacturers to quickly adopt new components.
ON Semiconductor is offering a full range of Interline Transfer CCD image sensor evaluation kit, allowing customers to test and check the actual conditions of use such as KAI-29052 and other components of the performance. The customer may contact the local ON Semiconductor sales representative or authorized agent to order the evaluation kit. For more information on KAI-29052 please read the blog.
