Vishay Introduced The Industry's First Mlcc For High Frequency Rf And Microwave Applications

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the industry's first surface-mount multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCC) for high frequency RF and microwave applications - the VitramonVJ HIFREQ HT series with operating temperature range of +200 C. For communication base stations and defense communications systems, Vishay's VitramonVJ HIFREQ HT series offers four compact sizes with ultra-high Q and low ESR.

For high power communication transmitters and high frequency inverters exposed to + 175 ° C or higher, designers have had to rely on MLCCs limited to + 150 ° C. Today's device operating temperature range of -55 ° C to + 200 ° C, in such applications to provide long-term high reliability. In order to improve design flexibility, MLCC's small 0402,0603,0805 and 1111 enclosure sizes are allowed to be placed close to high dissipative components such as SiC and GaN switches.

The VJ HIFREQ HT family of devices offers a high series resonant frequency (SRF) and a parallel resonant frequency (PRF) based on a highly stable ceramic dielectric. The MLCC has a larger operating voltage range from 16V to 500V and a larger capacitance range from 0.1pF to 3.3nF with a tolerance of only ± 0.05pF. The device provides excellent aging rates of 0% per decade and high ESD tolerance to prevent high voltage transients.

These capacitors are manufactured using a noble metal electrode (NME) technology using a wet process and use a variety of RoHS-compliant termination finish, including a 100% tinplate for reflow Ni-barrier (code-named "X"), a non-magnetic copper barrier (codenamed "C") for magnetic interference sensitive applications, and silver palladium (code-named "E") for conductive epoxy modules. The VJ HIFREQ HT series can also have a lead (at least 4%) end coating (code-named "L"). These devices are halogen-free and comply with the Vishay Green standard (except "L" terminals).
