Renesas Electronics R-car Series Soc Supports The Automotive Linux Platform

Raisar Electronics, Inc., the world's leading provider of semiconductor solutions, today announced that it has begun massaging its first R-Car system-on-chip (SoC) system using automotive-grade Linux (AGL) software. AGL is an interoperable open source project designed to develop a fully open software stack for networked vehicles.

Renesas Electronics believes that AGL is indispensable to expand the car software developer base. Renesas R-Car Starter Kit and AGL software are accelerating the development of in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) applications to help vehicle manufacturers roll out networking vehicles faster. Renesas Electronics is a platinum member of the AGL project, working with Toyota and other vehicle manufacturers to work together to promote the development of open source software. Renesas Electronics believes that by supporting these activities, not only can help more level suppliers to easily develop automotive applications, but also help developers who are not familiar with embedded applications to accelerate the IVI deployment.

Renesas Electronics's first R-Car series SoC, based on the AGL platform software, has been used in Toyota's new Camry system in 2018. The model debuted in the United States this summer, becoming the first Toyota car in the infotainment system using automotive-grade Linux (AGL) software models.

"Toyota and Renesas Electronics from the beginning to participate in the AGL project. We work with Renesas Electronics and AGL, in 2018 the new Camry in-car infotainment system using Renesas Electronics R-Car series SoC, success "We look forward to the future, and I believe we will be able to further advance the open platform for industry standards to accelerate the development of new IVI systems," said Murata Tomita, Minister of Strategy and Planning at Toyota.

"Renesas Electronics is an active supporter of the automotive Linux, Linux foundation and open source development and is actively involved in AGL project activities as a member of the board," said Dan Cauchy, executive director of the automotive Linux, Linux Foundation. It is nice to see that the products on the market are already using AGL software and expect that AGL will be used more widely in the near future. "

Renesas Electronics will continue to promote AGL platform and other open source activities, and with our partner companies together, in the automotive era to guide the development of automotive information systems.
